Accessibility in the art museum

Accessible Parking

Along Pohjolankatu in the vicinity of the main doors, there is one disabled parking space at a distance of about 40 meters from the doors. There are other parking spaces along the same street (Pohjolankatu) in the immediate vicinity of the art museum. These locations have 3 h disc parking from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Parking is free and unrestricted on weekday evenings from 5 pm onwards and on weekends.

Unobstructed access is via the fenced courtyard. To request opening the gate and door:

  • call the art museum’s Information Desk, tel. 044 710 0545, or
  • ring the doorbell on the wall to the left side of the main doors.

The threshold of the yard gate is 7 cm high; the doorsteps are about 2 cm high. The slope of the yard ramp is about 10%, the width of the door openings is at least 83 cm. The courtyard and the access route are cobbled.

Information Desk and Museum Shop

Location: to the left of the main entrance, at the beginning of the exhibition hall.

Cloakroom

Free cloakroom and lockers are located on the right when entering through the main doors.

Washrooms

The accessible toilet is next to the cloakroom. The toilet has a baby changing station.

Access routes and elevator

The exhibition spaces are located at street level and on the 2nd floor. The art museum has an accessible elevator. Chairs are available in the exhibition spaces.

Guide and service dogs are welcome.

Assistive equipment for loan

Strollers, communicators, reading glasses and magnifying glasses can be borrowed from the art museum’s Information Desk.

Plain language guided tours and audio descriptions

Specialty guided tours can be requested at the Information Desk, tel. +358 44 710 0545. Guided tours and workshops can be adapted to visitors with reduced mobility and disabilities.

Kajaani Art Museum has prepared an accessibility plan for 2017–2022. We want to serve the public and surrounding communities by investing in developing accessibility in the long term. Outi Salonlahti and Sari Salovaara, experts from the Culture for All Service, have been involved in drawing up the plan. The implementation has been supported by the Art Promotion Centre Finland.
